Starting point

London
E20 1FU

BOOM! That’s right – we’re heading to the White Water Centre, Waltham Abbey.

‘It's in my roots, it's in my veins
It's in my blood and I stain
every heart that I use to heal the pain
So I blame it on the River Lea…’

- this ride is so good that Adele even made a song about it!

Proceeding clockwise on the loop of this route, we will follow the Lea Valley Walk/Capital Ring passing Hackney Marshes, Springfield Park, Walthamstow Marshes, Tottenham Marshes and Wild Marsh West as we follow the River Lea passing by several Locks and Rammey Marsh before crossing under the M25 to reach the White Water Centre.

On the return journey we will re-trace our route then cross Wild Marsh East to enter the Wetlands where we take the cycle path passing by many reservoirs to follow Coppermill Stream/Lane and avoid the low bridge. We then follow the Lea Valley Path passing by Walthamstow and Hackney Marshes towards the VeloPark.

This off-road ride is mostly on riverside tracks with 60% being on non-tarmac surfaces with embedded gravel and some loose surface grit; this is unsuitable for bikes with skinny road tyres.

Relatively flat and at a leisurely pace, this ride welcomes all abilities, but please note the 24 miles distance.

eBikes are welcome.

All participants are expected to bring:
• A bike in good working order with tyres pumped to the correct pressure. If in doubt, have it checked over by a local bike shop or qualified mechanic.
• A cycle helmet
• Carry at least a spare inner tube, pump and tyre levers.
• A cycle lock for use at the refreshment stop.
• Dress for the expected weather on the day.
• A drink and snack (we will also have a refreshment stop).
