An exploration of some of the parks and gardens on the west side of Edinburgh.
Starting from the bottom of the zigzags at Russell Road, we set out on a clockwise tour passing through Roseburn Park then along the Water of Leith to our first stop at Saughton Park and Gardens where we can take a short stroll to enjoy the seasonal borders.
From there we head through Stenhouse and Carricknowe with a detour through St Margaret’s Park to Dovecot Road, through the Gyle Park to Dechmont Road and up to East Craigs.
We wend our way eastwards to Clermiston in easy stages (avoiding the steep climb!) to discover the hidden Corstorphine Hill Walled Garden for our second stop where we can take another short stroll. Downhill then on residential roads and shared paths, across Queensferry Road at the traffic lights, leading to the paths through Davidson’s Mains Park. Our next stop is the lovely Lauriston Castle and Gardens where we can enjoy well earned coffee and cake! An easy ride along the Blackhall and Roseburn paths brings us back to our starting point.
We will take a leisurely pace with plenty of stops to catch our breath and enjoy the best of the gardens. We will stop for coffee and cake at Mimi’s in the grounds of Lauriston Castle. Timings are approximate depending on weather, mechanicals and how long we spend in the gardens!
Mostly cycle paths and quiet roads, with a few busier roads to cross. Almost all tarmac with a few sections on hard-packed gravel. An easy cycle with some short but not too steep inclines. Suitable for all bike types.
Bring payment card for refreshments at our cafe stop if you wish, also an inner tube, pump and tools for your bike and/or a means of getting home should you need to. Helmets are advised.
