Heading North from Gateway station we'll skirt around West Craigs estate then cut through to Cammo Walk, cross the Queensferry Road at traffic lights to reach the Miller & Carter car park.
Here we'll enter the Dalmeny estate and follow the estate roads and tracks all the way to South Queensferry, encountering some lovely views along the way.

We'll cycle along Queensferry High Street, cross to Bo'ness Road then turn uphill towards the Forth Road Bridge and the viewpoint. We will plan to stop for refreshments here where items can be purchased from the Picnic Kiosk or you may bring your own. There are toilets, if needed, both in South Queensferry and at the Viewpoint.

Our route home takes us through quiet residential streets before joining the lovely woodland railway path as far as Kirkliston, then a single track path alongside the river to reach Lochend Road. This back road will lead us around the western edge of airport to join the cycleway alongside Ingliston Showground and the (not-so-quiet) Glasgow Road, over the RBS bridge and back to our start point.

I have graded this ride as 'Challenging', not because it is particularly arduous but due to the varied terrain as well as having one or two inclines. However, it is not a race so we will take our time to tackle the terrain, enjoy the ride and the wonderful scenery.

A lovely scenic ride around the Dalmeny estate and through South Queensferry, with a refreshment stop at the Forth Bridges Viewpoint.

We'll be on quiet roads, cycle ways, shared paths, estate roads and tracks, woodland tracks. Mostly tarmac but also some hard-packed gravel, woodland paths, a little on single-track and a short stretch on cobblestones. A varied ride!

We'll stop to catch our breath periodically and to take in the views.

Please bring your usual equipment, spare inner tubes etc, snacks, water for the ride, money for refreshments if you want to purchase anything at the cafe and/or a picnic if you like. Helmets are strongly recommended.

We never leave anyone behind
