This is a perfect cycle for an evening outing.

We leave the historic market town of Lanark on the cycle path passing the scenic Lanark Loch and racecourse before crossing the Clyde at Hyndford Bridge (built in 1773 by Alexander Stevens) and turning left. We travel along the A73 for a few miles until we reach the Eagle Gates that form the entrance to the Carmichael Estate. We then turn left on quiet roads and head over to Covington and then across the new bridge and into Carstairs Junction.

We then head to Carstairs Village and back to Lanark via Ravenstruther and Cleghorn. At Lanark we wind our way back to Lanark Lifestyles via the lovely lane that passes Smylumn House.

The majority of this route is on cycle paths and quiet roads, but the 3 miles section from Hyndford Bridge to the Eagle Gates is on the A73 and the 3 mile stretch between Lanark and Carstairs is on the A743, which are a bit busier. There are also a few hilly sections. Therefore, it is not ideal if you are a beginner - you should choose one of our guided rides instead.
