The ride sets off going through Caerwent village and then follows the cycle path to Crick. Then we take on the first climb of the route, going up the main road to Shirenewton. Once at the top, we head downhill and onto the B4235 which we follow towards Chepstow. At the end of the road we turn left and cycle along the A466 to take on our next climb. Going past the racecourse, through St. Arvans and out into the countryside again. Then it's mostly downhill as we continue to follow the A466 all the way to Tintern and out the other side to reach our lunch stop at the Old Station.
After lunch, we retrace the route back into Tintern and then cross the bridge to join the Wye Valley Greenway. We follow this path through Tidenham Tunnel and back to Sedbury. From here we work our way through the climb out of Chepstow to get to the hill down into Mathern. The remainder of the route is on quiet lanes as we head back to Crick and then Caerwent.

A circular scenic route out to Tintern and back.

The route is a mix of quiet country lanes, traffic free paths and some A and B roads to contend with. Please be confident that you are happy to ride them before signing up. Also, part of the route is on the Wye Valley Greenway which is a little rough in places so a gravel or hybrid is recommended. We also go through the Tidenham tunnel which is almost 1km long and dimly lit so also bear that in mind.

We will stop at the Old Station Tintern for lunch.

Please wear a helmet and bring along some money and a lock for the lunch stop. It is also a good idea to carry a spare tube just in case.

We never leave anyone behind
