Caerleon to Cwmbran - the scenic route! #RideLikeG

The ride sets off round the one way system to get onto the main road to Usk. We stay on this road for about 3 miles until we reach Treherbert Road. We turn here and follow the road to the other end. It does include a bit of a climb and the highest point of the ride is along here towards the end. Then it's just a short stretch before we join the path along the river and follow it almost all the way to the cafe.
After a short break, we have a short bit of road riding before we join the canal and follow the towpath all the way down to Newport. Then we turn and follow the path by the river to get back into Caerleon.

A nice scenic loop with some climbing in the first half. The second half is mostly flat or downhill.

The route is a mix of roads, country lanes, traffic free cycle paths and canal towpaths. The road part is a fast road but wide and fairly straight so cars have plenty of time to see us and overtake.

We will stop at Tommy's cafe in Cwmbran for refreshments.

Please wear a helmet and bring along a lock and some money for the snack stop. It is also a good idea to carry a spare tube just in case.
