This ride takes us to another of those London hidden gems hiding in plain sight!
Two Temple Place is a dazzling neo-Gothic gem on Victoria Embankment, commissioned by and built for William Waldorf Astor in the 1890s.The interiors are adorned with gilding, marble and stained glass and the house originally contained the largest strongroom in Europe. Currently it is showcasing an interesting exhibition called "Lives Less Ordinary". There is however, much to admire here beside the exhibition.
After visiting Two Temple Place, we will have a coffee stop either in Temple place or the Southwark cathedral café
Our route will take us through Peckham and Walworth, crossing the river at Westminster bridge and along the C3 to Temple. We will return via London bridge, picking up the C4 and Waterlink way to Cator park. The route is generally on traffic free, or segregated, cycle paths and quiet roads but also some potentially busy streets with a few busy junctions to negotiate. This is not a ride for beginners or those inexperienced on busy urban roads.
You should be able to maintain a brisk pace in order to keep to the timings posted in the information. The overall timing for this ride however, is somewhat approximate as it depends how long we spend at the exhibition.
We will be leaving our bikes unattended at both stops, so you must bring at least one, preferably two, sturdy locks for security
Please ensure you are dressed appropriately for the weather conditions and that your bike is in good working order. Make sure your details on your profile are up-to-date, in particular that we have a phone number for you. If you don’t have a mobile put your home number in the mobile phone box.
Any problems on the day, call Jacqui Turner 07456840924
