Please feel free to do some homework to find out what the blue plaques are for as I'm sure any extra information will be welcomed by the riders.
From the Arts Centre we'll head along the road to our first blue plaque commemorating disaster at Fatfield Colliery, and then down to the river at Fatfield for plaque 2. We'll cycle through the lumpy bits of Princess Anne Park and then on quiet roads with a minor detour to plaque 3 for Glebe Colliery. Back to the roads we go to one of Breeze regular stops at the blue plaque for Gertrude Bell.
Next stop Concord Bus Station for Miners Remembered followed by The Blue Bell pub in High Usworth for the Susan Peareth blue plaque. We have a mixture of road and cycle ways to plaque 7 commemorating the Schoolchildren's Strike at Usworth Colliery School.
We'll probably stop next since we cycle past Elm Tree en route to plaque 8 and the lure of cake will be too tempting.
Our final Plaque commemorates RAF Usworth and the Battle of Britain and is near the entrance to the North East Land, Sea and Air Museum.
And then back to the start via roads and parts of the C2C.

Setting off from the Arts Centre in Fatfield we'll do a tour around 8 Blue Plaques of Washington with a refuelling stop part way round at Elm Tree Garden Centre.

The route is a mixture of quieter roads, cycle paths and shared pathways through Priness Anne Park.

The planned stop will be at Elm Tree Garden Centre Cafe for drinks and snacks and there is the option of more drinks and snacks in the Arts Centre Cafe at the end of the ride.

Helmets are advisable please. As the weather is changeable in February please come suitably dressed and with waterproofs. Please arrive in good time so that we can do a bike check before we set off. Make sure that your bike is in good working condition and that you have a spare tube of tam he correct size for your tyres. Working lights are useful for the road sections of the ride. If the weather is looking iffy we'll let you know via the conversation tab by 9am on the morning of the ride. For any queries please contact us via the Message Ride Creator tab.

Newbies are welcome and we never leave anyone behind. Why not join us before the springtime rush?
