- This is a good opportunity for those of us living in urban areas to cycle out in the countryside on scenic quiet roads. This is aimed at hybrid bikes - if you come on a road bike you will need to be prepared to go more slowly as hybrids are slower. We will ride at the pace of the slowest rider and always wait so that no one is left behind. This has some big hills, but we will each take them at our own pace and rest at the top.
- We will cycle mainly on quiet roads and delightful country lanes to Latimer, Ley Hill, Whelpley Hill, Bovingdon, Flaunden, Sarratt and Chorleywood via this route

- If rain looks imminent then we won’t stop for a coffee until the end of the ride, back at Little Chalfont (where the toilets are open), so bring a snack to eat during the ride. If the weather is fine, we can have a coffee after 16 miles at Rootz at Chorleywood where there are tables outside.
- Bring credit card, pump, at least 1 spare inner tube, snack and possibly a lightweight bike lock (to use as a deterrent while at café). But don’t go overboard with heavy gear, as everything feels even heavier when cycling up those hills! I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line anytime on weekends and off-peak Mon-Fri (peak hours are 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00). For info see
https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycling-in-london/bikes-on-public-transport
- From Harrow on the Hill there is a Chiltern Railways train at 9:39 which arrives at Chalfont & Latimer station at 9:58, or if you just miss it there is a Met Line tube at 9:40 arriving Chalfont & Latimer 10:05
- Or it takes 20-40 mins to drive from most towns within Hillingdon borough. The Snells Wood car park costs £2.50 up to 4 hours, £3.60 for 5 hours, or you can park for free in a residential road and ride to the start.
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Check your brakes are working well, your gears are smooth and your tyres are in good condition and pumped up – you can use this video. https://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-blog/get-active/2019/everyday-walking-and-cycling/the-m-check-for-your-bike-in-11-steps If that one is too technical then try this easier one https://youtu.be/u0dtGe-LrcQ
- If you, or anyone in your household, are feeling at all unwell with possible symptoms of Covid-19 such as new persistent cough, high temperature, loss of sense of taste or smell, please cancel your place.
- If you have any questions don’t hesitate to message me
