Starting point

Buckinghamshire
HP5 1PX

- We will cycle on quiet roads with lovely views to Chiltern Velo café at Hawridge. This is a cafe/cycle workshop with a warm welcome for cyclists (as the name suggests). I especially like their 70% dark hot chocolate.
- We will go out via Pednor, Swan Bottom, St Leonards, Cholesbury and back via Asheridge, and across St Marys Park: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/39815914 If you’re really keen I could throw in an extra 4 miles around some lovely cool wooded lanes on the way out. We do most of the hard work on the way to the café, then have a glorious downhill on the way home, so we should be cool even in the predicted heatwave. And you can even have a swim once we’re finished.
- This has some steep hills and descents, so you need to be fairly confident riding, but we will regroup at the top of every hill and nobody will be left behind.
- Please bring the usual (pump, inner tubes, etc). I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- I can’t see who is on the waitlist, so if you are on it, send me a message via the “message ride creator” button, with your phone number, and I will see whether I can make another space (you need to be logged in to the let’s ride website to see that button). Also send me a message if you’ve never cycled in the Chilterns and you’re unsure about whether this ride will be OK for you.
- You can easily get to Chesham by Metropolitan Line Tube or by Chiltern Rail.
- If you are unsure of the way to the pool we can call in at the station on the way if you message me beforehand.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line at the weekends. For info see https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycles-on-public-transport
- You can take your bike on Chiltern Rail nearly any time of day – see https://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/customer-service/travelling-your-bike
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Check your brakes are working well, your gears are smooth and your tyres are in good condition and pumped.
- If you have any questions don’t hesitate to message me
