Starting point

Buckinghamshire
HP6 5HU

- This is a good opportunity for those of us living in urban areas to cycle out in the countryside on scenic quiet roads. Considering this is the famously hilly Chilterns, this is a fairly flat ride (ok if you’re from Hillingdon you might think it is hilly! It’s all relative…). This is suitable for both road and hybrid bikes, but if you come on a road bike you will need to be prepared to go more slowly as hybrids are slower. We will ride at the pace of the slowest rider and always wait so that no one is left behind.
- We will cycle mainly on quiet roads with beautiful scenery to the Wendover Woods café, via Copperkins Ln, Hyde Heath, The Lee, and Swan Bottom via this route https://ridewithgps.com/routes/40282590 and back a similar way.
- If coming by train or tube there are lots of options, e.g. Chiltern Railways leaves Harrow on the Hill at 9:39 (arriving Amersham at 10:02), or 10:09 (arriving 10:32). Or the Met Line tube leaves Harrow on the Hill at 9:55 (10:03 from Northwood Hills), arriving Amersham 10:29. You can easily cycle from the station to the start at Hervines park. Here’s a route (if you put “Amersham Bowls Club” into google maps it takes you to the right spot): https://maps.app.goo.gl/SeQ7zkNZUQuf6xk6A?g_st=iw
- Or it takes 30 mins to drive from most towns within Hillingdon borough. If Hervines Park carpark is full there is free parking on Berry Field Park HP6 5QN, then you can easily cycle along the little path to Hervines Park. https://maps.app.goo.gl/XK2RnApxvVgDvz1M8?g_st=iw
- If you want me to meet you at the underground station and cycle with you to the start, that is fine, message me the previous day and I will meet you a little earlier.
- You can take your bike anywhere on the Metropolitan Line off-peak (peak hours are Mon-Fri 7:30-9:30 and 16:00-19:00). For info see https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/cycling/cycles-on-public-transport
- You can take your bike on Chiltern Rail nearly any time of day (and it still permits electric bikes, unlike TFL) – see https://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/customer-service/travelling-your-bike
- Please bring the usual (pump, inner tubes, etc). But don’t go overboard bringing heavy gear, as everything feels even heavier when cycling up those hills! You won’t need a heavy lock as we will be sitting in sight of the bikes at the café – a light café lock should be fine. I would prefer that you wear a helmet for your own safety.
- Please check your bike thoroughly before you come. Check your brakes are working well, your gears are smooth and your tyres are in good condition and pumped up.
- If you have any questions don’t hesitate to message me using the “message ride creator” button, with your phone number, and I will reply via WhatsApp (you need to be logged in to the let’s ride website to see the button).
