From Robin Park Arena we take the Leeds Liverpool Canal and head east along the towpath. The towpath is now a very good surface for cyclists following the resurfacing works from Scott Lane at Beech Hill to Alder Lane at Parbold. There is a cobbled section at Dean Lock Gathurst which will be a little bumpy for non suspension bikes about 300ft and the last 1000ft to the Cafe at Parbold can be a little wet and muddy as it has not been resurfaced.

After the cafe break at Yours is the Earth we take to the roads for the next 4 miles. Here you will discover why the ride is described as challenging, there are a couple of climbs both about 0.6 miles in length but both very achievable with the correct gear/cadence selection.

We re-join the canal towpath at Appley Bridge and leave it again at Martland Mill to take an alternative route back to the start.
