Starting from - You MUST be on the 0930 train from Clapham Junction to Lingfield (ultimate destination East Grinstead). This usually leaves from platform 13 but check - platforms do change! Please make sure you are at Clapham Junction station in plenty of time to buy your ticket (Off Peak day return £12.10) and get onto the platform (there are lifts).

If there is a group of us we can liaise in advance and buy a group saver.

The train arrives in Lingfield at 1010 and we will start the ride outside Lingfield station.

We will aim to catch the 1414 train back from Lingfield, returning to Clapham Junction at 1456. It may be possible to catch the 1344, returning to CJ at 1426, but please allow for the fact we may need to get the 1414. SW11 2QP

This is the Between Downs & Weald ride from Jack Thurston's lovely cycling book Lost Lanes. It's a rolling ride in quiet countryside with a chance to see a 1000 year old yew tree and Chiddingstone Castle and village. There are short stretches on B roads but otherwise it is all quiet country lanes. It is moderately hilly, especially the final stretch.

Our lunch/cafe stop will be at the Tulip Tea Rooms in Chiddingstone. Or bring a packed lunch. Please bring a lock for your bike, as well as snacks and plenty of water.
