We leave Robin Park to join the Leeds and Liverpool canal towpath to cycle past Wigan Pier and climb up the 23 locks of the Wigan flight to top lock. From top lock the route will follow the towpath and also canalside tracks and trails. After passing through Haigh, Red Rock and Adlington we leave the canal and follow Cycle Route 55 to Astley Park where we will have a refreshment stop at the Cafe Ambio (www.cafeambio.co.uk). Please bring a drink/snacks or money to buy them.
The route may change on the day due to weather conditions.
The ride is mainly off road and the towpath is potholed in places but resurfacing is ongoing and the tracks and trails are a mixture of tarmac and gravel. The return route will leave the towpath at Haigh bridge and pass through Haigh plantations to Whelley loop line and then back to Robin Park on the canal towpath.
