This is an opportunity to explore an area a little outside our usual routes, but which offers plenty of interest and some attractive lanes and villages. PLEASE NOTE that we do a short stretch along the Flitch Way (old railway line), which is unpaved but easy enough in reasonably dry conditions. Road bikes or gravel bikes should be fine (ideally not very skinny tyres!). Similarly we do a short stretch on a good track into Hatfield Forest. For both these reasons, I'll cancel if we've had a lot of wet weather.
Mostly quieter roads and lanes, plus a couple of short stretches on busier roads (and we cycle out and back through the streets of Saffron Walden). It's an undulating route - about 2000 feet elevation overall.
We'll stop for lunch at Hatfield Forest cafe 30 miles in. Bring your usual snacks to sustain you up until that point.
Helmets essential. Bike lights and a rain jacket advisable. You'll also need payment for your refreshments. and basic puncture repair gear suitable for your bike.
All welcome. If you haven't ridden with the group before, please drop a note to introduce yourself to the ride organiser (Frances) and if possible provide an email address if you'd like the route gpx to be sent to you nearer the time.
