Have ayou ever thought about joining a cycle club but not sure you can keep up? Well here is your chance to see what being part of a club is all about.
This is a nice mainly flat 28-mile route. Come along and chat to us as we ride and at The Side House at the mid-point of the ride and see what you are missing. Don't be worried if you have never ridden in a group before or you feel you won't be able to keep up, we will look after you. We are a friendly bunch.
** NOTE** In the event of adverse weather this ride will not go ahead. We will notify in advance of any cancellation.
Your qualified British Cycling Ride leaders will meet you in Wyndham Park and guide you at a safe and leisurely pace through the outskirts of Grantham annd along 5 Gates Lane and to Belton. Largely running parallel to the River Witham the ride involves a short stretch of riding on the A607 to gain access to the quiet lanes west of Barkston. We will pass through Dry Doddington. The parish church, dedicated to St James, has a west-ward leaning tower. It is a Grade II* listed building dating from the 12th century, with an early 14th-century tower. It was restored in 1876. Recent restoration work, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, has brought the 14th century tower back to its former glory. The tower boasts an impressive tilt of 4.8 degrees, leaning more than the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy which is now tilted at 3.97 degrees. Our cafe stop for the ride is The Side House in Claypole. After the café stop, return to Barkston across Hough-on-the-Hill to rejoin our route back to Grantham via 5 Gates Lane.
If you still have space, you can have a coffee with new found friends in the park café.
Your leaders are fully trained and qualified through British Cycling, and above all friendly. They will take all reasonable steps to ensure your, and the public's safety and we never leave anyone behind.
Now to the cost of all this. The great news is that it is totally free of charge, apart from refreshments, which are optional. All riders must be registered and wear a suitable cycling helmet and we recommend summer sun protection, even if it’s a cloudy day. Children in carriers are welcome and do not need to be registered separately.
