Did you know there are fourteen surviving windmills in Buckinghamshire? There were many more but overtime many have been demolished, burnt down, blown down or collapsed. I have put together three rides so that we can visit seven of them. If we did them in one day it would be 80 miles but I have split them into smaller, more manageable sections. This is the first ride where we will cycle to see Pitstone Windmill and Hawridge Windmill. Lots of chances for photos. We will have coffee/cake at Chiltern Velo at the end of the ride.
We hope these rides will be popular but please only book on them if you know you can definitely attend as we put alot of work into arranging these and last minute cancellations often mean that it is too late for other ladies to book a place. If you are not sure that you can come, just message me nearer the time and I may be able to fit you in.
We will be doing some exploring in other areas of the county to find them. We will be able to get as close as we can to them – some are lived in, some are owned by the National Trust but they are all magnificent buildings.
Come and join these rides, exploring new routes and seeing some of our heritage! We will start and finish each ride at a café and stop en route at a café on the two longer rides. These are social, fun rides and although there are challenging hills, we will always wait at the top of a hill and no-one gets left behind. I have tried to keep the routes to country lanes but we will sometimes have to cycle on busier roads.
Please wear a helmet, bring a spare inner tube and pump. Check your bike over in advance to make sure the brakes are working and tyres are pumped up!
As always, your bike must be in good working order, bring a spare inner tube and pump, working lights as well as money and lock for when we stop.
