Along the Clyde to Bothwell Castle

We'll follow the Clyde (cycle path NCN 75) to Bothwell Castle and back. After crossing Glasgow city centre and Glasgow Green, the cycle path follows river Clyde towards Uddingston. After leaving the river for a bit, it re-joins not far from the imposing Bothwell Castle. After passing through Uddingston, return on the same route.

The route is for the great majority on beautiful cycle paths surrounded by nature and away from traffic, however there is a short segment where we'll be on open road. The route is mostly flat, with a few small hills near Uddingston as we leave the Clyde for a bit.

We'll have a break to see Bothwell Castle, half way into the ride. The castle is currently closed to the public but it is possible to walk around and see most of it from the outside. The surrounding garden is ideal for a picnic and a bit of rest. There are lots of shops in Uddingston, including Scotland's Tunnock Baker. There is also a supermarket for any need, before heading back, retracing the path. There will not be other facilities along the route.

Suitable for any kind of bike, including city bike-share. We'll ride at leisurely but steady pace.
