A Meander to the Meadows

A gentle meander from Saughton Park to the Meadows in Edinburgh, returning along the canal and Water of Leith.

The route is mostly on shared paths and cycleways with just a few short sections on quieter streets.

From Saughton Park we head out alongside the Water of Leith to Roseburn Park then take the new link path from Sauchiebank to Fountainbridge. After a short stretch on the canal towpath we wind our way to - and loop around - the Meadows, cross over to Bruntsfield Links then cycle down Leamington Terrace to rejoin the canal towpath at the Leamington Lift Bridge.

We'll follow the towpath as far as Meggetland then make our way past the Water of Leith Centre, continue along the riverside path and back to Saughton Park.

We'll have plenty of time to stop and catch our breath and take photos.
Cafe stop at the Water of Leith Centre or back at Saughton Gardens, we can decide on the day.

Bring money if you want to purchase anything at our cafe stop, or bring your own drinks and snacks - there is plenty of outdoor seating. Bring a bike lock if you have one.

Helmets are strongly recommended. Ideally, please carry water and a spare inner tube to fit your bike and any tools needed to remove your wheel, or have a plan/strategy for getting home if you are unable to continue for any reason (eg friend/taxi).
