The Bus Stop Bikers Cycling Group is an Informal Recreational Cycling Group catering for beginners to experienced Cyclists. We hold regular rides in Lancashire. There is no membership fee and no rule book. The Group was originally formed in 2013 to meet the needs of budding cyclists in the Lancashire area. The types of rides offered reflect the availability of members to put rides on and we would welcome offers to host rides of any type in the future. We mainly do Road rides, which may include rough trails or paths. We may put on some rides suitable for mountain bikes. Equally suggestions for routes or destinations are equally welcome. The Bus Stop of the title is situated in Roe Lee, Blackburn, the original start point for rides. However we now mostly begin rides in Billington, Feniscowles, Bilsborrow or Chorley, whilst occasionally using other venues nearer Lancaster. Again suggestions for starting points for rides are always welcome.
The key mantra of the group has always been that nobody will be left behind and this remains true today. Riding in a group is always more fun than riding alone, so please feel free to give us a try. We welcome electric bikes. Our Website is now online at www.busstopbikers.co.uk and rides can be joined there if you register as a member. Current Organisers: Stephen Hilton - I am a retired family doctor from Chorley. I have been cycling for 65 years (Honestly! - well with a few breaks). Before that I had a pedal car. I passed my national cycling proficiency test in 1963 and have never looked back. I also build custom steel bicycle frames, repair and service friend's bicycles and perform a bit of bike fitting on the side. I am a member of Cycling UK (formerly the Cycle Touring Club) and have attended a Cycling UK Ride Leaders course for those who are interested in such things. Andrés - British Cycling trained ride leader. My family are from Tenerife in the Canary Islands and moved to sunny Blackburn in the 60’s. I turned to cycling to try and reverse my diabetes and have never looked back since. We hope you wish to join us on some of our rides, so please feel free to join the group if this is of interest. We hope to meet many of you soon and share our passion for cycling, toasted tea cakes and good coffee/ tea. Chris Marks - A lifelong cyclist I love all aspects of riding whether it's road MTB or gravel and go about 5 times a week. I am just as happy doing a 20 mile speed ride as I am just riding quiet lanes and taking in the wonderful scenery we are blessed with. A strong believer that cycling should be for everyone regardless of ability and am always happy to ride out with anyone who just needs some company to help them build confidence. Kerry Chadwick - Hi my name is Kerry. I'm relatively new to cycling with only a couple of years in the saddle. I was a runner but I now have degenerative disc disease which put a stop to that so took up cycling. Road cycling is my favourite and I love just getting out and discovering the lanes of Lancashire. I also do mountain biking and have recently been doing some gravel riding also. I've done numerous sportives but I think my proudest day in the saddle was covering 103 miles doing the circumference of the Isle of Man, it only had 6000ft of climb. Hopefully I can help many more people enjoy a social ride and my love of cycling. See you on a ride soon. Mike Pringle - Hailing from the west country, I moved north until fetching up in Lancashire, everyone seemed so friendly I stayed. A bit of a latecomer to road cycling, only taking it up around 15 years ago persuaded by my wife who is a long-standing touring cyclist. Before that I would be on a mountain bike trying to cross a bog or gnarly countryside somewhere, definitely a convert these days so now you will find me seeking out road climbs to tackle instead. Trained as a mountain bike leader with OTC, I love introducing people to longer rides and hilly routes.
