Westwood Wonders

Starting at the newly built North Active Leisure Centre, the route is a great gentle ride through historic woodland and alongside the peaceful Westwood Dam, look out for the resident ducks and maybe a heron or two. There is a long history of iron working and coal mining in this area but Thorncliffe Wood is now a semi-natural ancient woodland. The Trans-Pennine Trail, part of a national network of multi-user paths, runs through the wood following the route of the old railway line.
