The Heron Trail, also known as cycle route 18, links the quiet villages of Hoo, High Halstow, Cooling, Cliffe, Higham and Upnor. The cycle trail provides a combination of rural and maritime interest with spectacular views of the River Medway and the River ThamesThere's several areas of interest along the route including the RSPB Northward Hill Reserve, famed for the herons which give this route its name. Additional locations such as Cliffe Pools and Upnor Castle are just a short ride away from the route you'll follow. There are many places of historical interest including castles, churches and houses, some of which have a connection with Charles Dickens. There is so much to take in and a wealth of local knowledge that will make you want to come back and explore the route again.
