The route begins with a short road section before passing by Ring Farm, the home of the South Yorkshire Police Mounted Section, where all the serving horses are named after places in south Yorkshire. Ring farm is one of only sixteen mounted police sections in the country. The route then continues on the Trans Penine Traill passing through open farmland Sunny Bank Wood and crosses the River Dearne via a large bridge with plenty of opportunities to take photographs. The route will then continue along the Trans Penine Trail towards Monk Bretton before continuing back along the same route to the Dorthy Hyman stadium, the stadium is named after the European, Commonwealth and Olympic medal winning athlete who was born in the village. All in all a chance to see the contrasting scenery in Barnsley from a different viewpoint.
