Riddlesden

This flat, gentle five mile route is sure to be a hit with first-time bike riders and families, following the traffic-free towpath of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The route starts at the 17th century manor house of East Riddlesden Hall, owned by the National Trust.  From here you'll make your way to the Leeds Liverpool Canal and, following the towpath, take in the delightful sights and sounds of the canal all the way to Bingley, where you can admire the famous Five Rise Locks. Built in 1774, the lock staircase is the steepest in the country, lifting narrowboats nearly 60ft over its 320ft length. The Five Rise Locks are a true marvel of the industrial age and a hub for tourists, with a cafe where you can rest and refuel before heading back along the canal to East Riddlesden Hall and journey's end.
