Assembling by the River Lea you will leave the characterful village by turning left at the L'Olivo Restaurant, previously ”The Nelson” pub.  On a short stretch of the Ayot Green Way we cross the former railway line and go up by the wood to Codicote Road.  Passing lovely mixed farm and woodland, the route picks-up The Great North Way (NCN12) on quiet lanes through or over the ford with its AA depth gauge.  Look out for the statue of the Virgin Mary, but if you miss it, you should see her on the way back.  Down over the A1(M), you'll delve into your destinantion of Knebworth and travel along London(Great North) Road. You will return via Old Kneworth, above ‘The House’, past Robin Hood & Little John, deer, buzzards and maybe a red kite!
