Castleford

This is a brilliant route starting at Castleford Swimming Pool. The route takes us further and further away from the edge of Castleford, heading to the River Aire where the National Cycle Route – Trans Pennine Trail, is picked up for a beautiful journey along the side of the water’s edge. The route steers past the interesting Lemonroyd Marina offering moorings for up to 85 boats including narrowboats, wide-beams and canal cruisers.  From here the route travels over the river and into the scenic and atmospheric RSPB reserve of St Aidans. The flowers and calls of woodland birds can be enjoyed and riders can listen out for the deep booming call of courting bitterns in the reedbeds and enjoy the spectacle of wildflowers growing in the grasslands and the bees and butterflies that visit them. The circular ride is completed by picking up another National Cycle Route (697) before heading back to Castleford Swimming Pool. The route is just over 16 miles and has so many things to see and take in, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
