Starting point

NE61 6DR

We'll meet opposite the Char Marsum Restaurant at the Service Area at Stannington (just off the A1) - address : Station Road End, Stannington NE61 6DR, England

A chance to see some Northumberland villages and the surrounding countryside. The route is hilly in parts but nothing too extreme. Leaving from Stannington Services we'll head towards Stannington Village, crossing the A1 using the roundabout, turning left at the second roundabout and then right in the village onto Church Road. At the end of church road we'll turn right onto Green Lane, then Bets Lane turning right onto the B6254 and then left after going under the A1 to head towards Morpeth. At the end of this lane, we'll turn left towards Mitford and on entering the village and climbing the hill we'll turn left. After passing St Marys Church, we'll head to Molesden, Meldon and then Walton. At Walton we'll cycle through the village and turn off down a single lane road (expect evidence of farms) until we reach Kirkley. Tea stop at Kirkley Hall and then back on the bikes towards Berwick Hill turning left towards the A1 and up the A1 cycle path back to Stannington. Alternatively if requested we can head back up Green Lane and stop at the Cheese Farm for tea and then turn right following our initial route. Most roads are quiet country lanes. Remember some money for a drink and food, a lock for your bike, clothing for the weather, a drink, some snacks and bike maintenance equipment that you may need. A helmet is advisable.
