Winter West Wight Wiggle

We will start in the historic village of Newtown; the medieval Old Capital of the Isle of Wight, thanks to it's prosperous salt beds and abundant oyster beds, and then head out west towards Yarmouth, passing through the villages of Shalfleet, Wellow and Thorley. From Yarmouth, we will take the old railway line to Freshwater, and then on to Freshwater Bay before returning back along there to Yarmouth for a refreshment stop ar Off The Rails. From Yarmouth we will head back towards Newtown, via Bouldnor, Wellow and Shalfleet.

Please join us on a beautiful jaunt around the lovely West Wight...setting off from Newtown, and heading Westwards. Ride will include a refreshment stop at Off The Rails in Yarmouth, who will welcome us with open arms (that's what they say!) in their fun, railway- themed, cafe.

We will be riding on quiet country lanes, which should be fairly traffic-free, plus the traffic-free old railway line.

We will be stopping at Off The Rails in Yarmouth on our return leg.

Please ensure that your hike is in good working order. Thus route is suitable for all bikes, but Hybrids, Gravel and MTBs will fair better on the gravely, sometimes muddy, cycle route between Yarmouth and Freshwater. Please ensure that you wear a properly fitting helmet. Please also ensure that your clothing and footwear is appropriate for the time of year; layers are best to keep out the cold. Waterproofs are advised, as is money/card for refreshments.
