A canal route to Worsley New Hall estate using the Bridgewater Canal. Surface is mainly good and suitable for all bikes (although slick tyres are not recommended). After our refreshment break at RHS Bridgewater, the route takes us to our first roads and a climb to get to the guided bus route back to Leigh. Following some quiet streets the ride will head to Pennington Flash for an additional toilet/coffee break (if needed) to take a look at the lake (and perhaps some photos!) before rejoining the canal and returning to Wigan. A new ride for the group plotted by member Phil who will navigate the route on the day.

A canal and road ride from Wigan to the stunning, well kept gardens and grounds of the historic 156 acre Worsley New Hall Estate at the RHS Gardens at Bridgewater.

The first part of the ride is along canal paths which are mainly good hard surfaces and suitable for all bikes (slick tyres aren't recommended). After our refreshment break we take to main roads and quiet streets to access the guided bus route before rejoining the canal path and return to Wigan.

Our planned refreshment stop will be the cafe at RHS Gardens at Bridgewater and maybe an additional refreshment/comfort break at Pennington Flash, if needed.

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). Don't forget some money or your card for the cafe stop.

This is a very scenic canal and road route to the award winning RHS Gardens at Bridgewater and there will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way. We want everyone to enjoy the ride so it will be at a pace to suit all riders in the group and to take account of the weather and path conditions (usually between 9-11 mph). There will be plenty of stops for photos (it wouldn't be a CYCLE: St Helens group ride without plenty of photos!) and we will never leave anyone behind!
