Another mostly off road ride Guided Ride from BeWell Wigan.

We start out from Robin Park Arena passing around the DW Stadium which is the home of Wigan Athletic and Wigan Warriors. We join the Leeds Liverpool canal and pass through Wigan Pier on our way to the Wigan Flight of Locks. We will be riding up all 21 of them at a very leisurely pace. From top lock we head towards Red Rock and will be leaving the canal at Pendlebury Lane (for those who know the lane we are not riding up it as there is a much easier alternative that will take us to the junction of School Lane and Meadow Pit Lane. We then ride up School Lane into Haigh Woodland Park (this section was part of the 2019 Tour of Britain on the final day).

The route is mostly Canal Towpath with a couple of small sections of quit road. The majority of the route has decent surfaces but if the weather has been bad then there are a couple of sections that can be a bit muddy and a short section of rough road that could well have a few deep puddles.

We will be stopping in the Park where there are several options to purchase refreshments around the Kitchen Courtyard. On occasions throughout the summer months free entertainment is provided by Local Brass Bands.

You will need appropriate clothing for the weather. Ideally you should bring cash if you intend to purchase refreshments, a spare inner tube, pump, basic tools, puncture repair kit, hand sanitiser and face mask to use when entering indoor premises.

A joint ride from Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and HSBC British Cycling Guided rides. This is a variation on the Famous Sights of Wigan Guided Ride. We will be riding out to watch the Tour of Britain as it passes through Haigh Hall. The majority of the route has decent surfaces but there are a couple of sections that can be quite muddy and we have a short section of rough road that could well have a few deep puddles depending on the weather.

We will be stopping at the Kitchen Courtyard where Tea, Coffee and cake will be provided by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles and we can relax watching the race on the Large screen waiting for the race to get to us.
