Starting point

BB7 9JA

Saint Augustine's RC High School Elker Lane, Billington, Clitheroe, Lancashire

Starting out from Whalley, we'll warm up for a few steady miles to Pendleton, turning right we'll go up & over the lump in our way, over the Nick of Pendle. We'll catch our breath at the top & have a chance to reform before riding carefully down into Sabden & up the other side. Swearing is understandable at this point. We'll try to ride along the ridge to Sabden Fold & Newchurch before stopping at the Clarion Café. This has a really interesting history & is the last one still open in the country, although there are still a lot of Clarion Cycling Clubs. We'll have lunch here & you will have to bring your own, they just do drinks & crisps etc. And you really won't want to overeat! We're in Pendle Witch country, have a look at the eye over the Churchyard in Newchurch. We'll head off to Barley & around the back of Pendle to Downham where we'll turn left, making our way back to Whalley where we have one last treat in store. Painter Wood! Up & up we'll go before coming down the other side & calling into the Petre Arms for refreshments, which, trust me, will have been earned aplenty. This will be the toughest ride we've done to date & will be what we need with the RVR60 only 2 weeks away. We'll ride at a steady pace of 11-12 mph on this ride and we'll keep our pace at a level so that we can all stay together & have a really pleasant ride. We can all do the lumps at our own pace & we'll reform at the top. Please check your bike over the night before the ride, tyres inflated, all bolts tight, lubricated. Clothing, Helmet & lights checked & ready. Please aim to be ready to ride 15 mins before the ride start time, getting away on time is good for everyone. It would be great to have some new & some familiar faces on this ride, you're all welcome & I look forward to riding with you. I'm a SkyRide Ride Leader leading guided rides & I'm also a trained route planner - I enjoy my cycling & appreciate it even more when I have people to ride with. Our group is called the FC's - Friendly Cyclists & you can read all about us & join the group here: https://www.goskyride.com/SCG/GroupDetails?GroupID=2197 Once you join the group you'll get an automatic invite for every ride, you will never miss a ride again!
