Part of our mid week ride series, join us today as we ride on one of my favourite local rides. One of the tougher rides that we take on. A few stiff little climbs for us today but all worth the efforts and the rewards are some excellent quiet lanes showcasing our lovely county at it's finest. This area is one that I don’t get around enough. Not for any real reason that I just seem to neglect the area. I’m always pleasantly surprised when I return with how much beauty the area has and can match anywhere else I ride. On top of all this is a great little tea-room at Rivington when we get there. We pass through Anglezarke and Rivington, the whole area has an abundance of reservoirs built to supply Liverpool with a clean, safe supply of water. Rushey Brow on Anglezarke Moor has a site of special archaeological interest, a working floor from the Mesolithic period, dated to 8th millennium BC Pikestones, a Neolithic chambered cairn, the only one in Lancashire, has an internal burial chamber with evidence of the original entrance and Round Loaf, a Neolithic to late-Bronze Age tumulus which can be seen from the route across Great Hill from White Coppice are scheduled monuments on Anglezarke Moor. We won’t actually pass these monuments but they’re there for your interest should you wish to come visit the area again. There's a regular group riding these mid-week rides, we're a friendly welcoming bunch who encourage each other on the tougher sections. There's always room for more riders, why not come along and join us, you may just enjoy the morning. Kev
