This ride gives you a choice of two distances, both of which give you a chance to stretch your climbing legs. We’ll begin with the steady climb up Loxley Road past the Nag’s Head up the hill to High Bradfield. After admiring the fine views across Loxley Valley we pass through the village and up another shorter but slightly steeper hill followed by a more gentle climb. There is then a sweeping descent past Agden Reservoir to Low Bradfield where we’ll pause at the cafe. Here we have a choice. Option 1: stop at the café and meet up with the Wheel Do It Damflask loop group, before riding back to the start (total distance 12 miles). Option 2: carry on with the second half of the ride, which continues up the other side of Agden Reservoir to Mortimer Road. We turn left and continue along a relatively flat section with striking views back towards Sheffield, before dropping down a sweeping descent. There is then a short steep climb up to the Strines Inn, where there is an option of a coffee stop before we return via Strines Moor and the winding lanes that lead back to Damflask. We then have an easy ride back to the start point. Although there is quite bit of climbing in this ride, we’ll take it steady and stop for breathers whenever we need to. If you need to walk up any of the steeper bits, that is fine – we won’t leave anyone behind.
