Break out your hybrids, gravel bikes and Mountain bikes for our next Cake Ride!
A 14 mile linear trail based on the former railway line between Northampton and Market Harborough, our latest search for cake will find us adventuring along the Brampton Valley Way (BVW) riding towards the ultimate goal of Welland Park,a cafe at the end of the line, although it will be possible to divert and explore other, nearer options should we wish to.
Aiming to ride at a speed of 10-11mph, we will ride at the most comfortable pace for us all. Expect rough gravel at the Northampton end, turning to mud tracks with two long, dark tunnels to negotiate before finally enjoying a rather civilised, well surfaced finish in Market Harborough: you can definitely tell when you pass into Leicestershire!
Note that there will be a short section of main road in Market Harborough as we move from the end of the BVW to the edge of Welland Park, but we can also ride this on the path or walk through the pretty shopping centre.
After suitable refreshments in Welland Park (the bacon cobs are excellent as is the cake!), we will retrace our "steps" along the BVW back to our starting point. The good news is that the slight gradient is downhill all the way home!
Helmets are mandatory as are good lights that you can see by as you make your way through the tunnels. Spare inner tube essential (just in case!) and tools are advised, water or energy drink as personal preference.
Don't forget some cash for the cafe (they do take cards) and your sense of adventure!
Meet in the Brampton Valley Way (free) car park opposite the Windhover Pub in Chapel Brampton, NN6 8AA. Aim to arrive and be ready to ride at 9.30am. Expect to be back at the car park approximately 1.30pm. Our return will be dependent on any mechanicals and how long we want to stay at the cafe.
We never leave anyone behind
