After leaving the Library we head East over the red footbridge to gain the paths alongside Gullivers World and Dallam. At the main path we turn left and head North towards Winwick on well surfaced cycle friendly stretches. Once past Winwick we will pick up the Sankey Canal and follow the scenic towpath that leads to Our destination at the Nine Arches Viaduct.
We can stop and watch the ducklings paddling and if we are lucky see a kingfisher and maybe the the odd turtle in the water!
Our route will return the same way and a drink and snack can be had at the Library.

A guided and easy-paced ride following the Sankey Valley Trail to the Nine Arches Viaduct near Earlestown

The route is for most part traffic-free and we will only use a very short section of on a quiet country lane. Good surface throughout and canalside towpath.

We can stop along the route as there are plenty of interesting features: Old canals (Sankey Valley canal was the 1st) Mucky Mountain! and an impressive Victorian-era railway Viaduct spanning a wide valley at Earlestown. Lovely chances to spot birdlife and nature at its springtime best. Ideal for children in cycle trailers, or older ones, who can ride a little further.

Children and under 18 have to wear a helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Helmets are highly recommended for everyone. Please bring a basic tool kit, puncture outfit, spare inner-tube or sealant. A simple bike check will be made before setting off. Please remember to bring drinks to hydrate and a bite to eat. Dress suitable for the weather and apply sunscreen if it is required.

We especially welcome newbies!
