Our ride starts from Hatfield Cycles, 12 St Albans Rd East, Hatfield.
We wil travel mainly off road along the Alban Way.
WHCF will leave from Hatfield on Sat June 1st to ride to the Herts Steam Engine Society steam rally in St. Albans.
Our annual ride is now a well established event in the calendar of summer events. Over 30 full size steam engines will be presented in all their glory, in addition to old farm tractors, classic cars and lorries plus other bygones from our rich industrial and agricultural heritage.
For youngsters these steaming monsters provide both entertainment and education, a total contrast with the high-tec era of the new millenium we now live in. However, many of the older generation will remember steam rollers at work, while before the last world war steam wagons regularly pounded through St. Albans carrying long distance loads. Steam threshing was carried out at local farms, while steam tractors were used to carry stone, farm produce and even house contents within the area. Some of these machines are now 100 years old, but have been rebuilt many times and will last forever!
A full day's entertainment will be available for everyone. In addition to the old engines and farm equipment there will be stalls, a fairground and refreshments including a licensed bar.
Demonstrations will be set up to show how the old equipment was used in days gone by. A working sawbench, thrashing machine, stone crusher, and other machinery will be at work.
Entry charges are £6.00 for adults, £3.00 for children, £5 for Seniors or £15.00 for a family ticket.
Please bring your bike lock and cash for admission and refreshments.
