This is a flat ride for the most part, apart from 2 hills in Richmond Park, the rest of it is pan flat as it runs along the Thames either going upstream or downstream. It is however ridden at a brisk pace, if you are moderately fit this ride due to the lack of hills is not especially demanding and the road surfaces are very good. As with any guided ride nobody is left behind.
We meet at the Cafe Colicci next to the Park Ride office near Roehampton Gate. @ 8.30 we do wait for 5 minutes but then it’s off (Text messages can delay departure). Then it’s around Richmond clockwise and out via Ham gate and then onto Church Lane and down to Kingston across Kingston bridge (hopefully the cycle lane rebuild has been completed) and out either along the river Path or between the 2 parks along Hampton Court Road cycle path (this is weather dependent), Then its across Hampton Bridge passing Hampton Court Palace and out to East Mosely via Bridge Road, this is a quiet road as we cycle past 2 of London's reservoirs. then it’s thru the Suburbs of Walton on Thames to the new bridge over the Thames, at the road-a-bout it's back along the Thames, thru Sunbury and Back into Hampton Wick, then it's thru Bushy Park and a possible stop at the Pheasantry cafe, and then out to Teddington and across the Thames at the Teddington weir and lock footbridge and back to Richmond Park to complete the journey.
Occasionally we do the reverse of this ride in which case it is a coffee stop at one of the cafes on Bridge Road.
The average speed will be about 20/21 kph over the whole ride, with some stretches quite a lot faster so with with regular stops should take roughly 2hrs 30 mins mins so please allow 3 hours allowing for a coffee and cake. Please remember to bring money for coffee, spare tubes, a pump, tyre levers and something to drink and eat whilst out on the ride.
