About the route
Starting point
South Yorkshire S36 2DS
To keep building our stamina and strengthening those climbing muscles, here is another chunk of the route from the forthcoming Tour de Yorkshire sportive. This ride follows about three quarters of the course for the medium route of the sportive. We start from Full Gas Bikes at Fox Valley and begin with a short warm-up before tackling the steep climb of Pea Royd lane and heading across Green Moor towards Hade Edge, turning off the sportive route and heading north to the Emley Moor transmitter. There we rejoin the sportive route and head east for a few miles before turning south. We'll ride through Silkstone and Silkstone Common to Thurgoland before heading into Deepcar and returning to Full Gas Bikes where we can refresh ourselves with coffee and cake. To gives us an effective training ride, we'll not have a coffee stop during the ride. The route includes some challenging climbs (although there is less climbing overall than on last week's ride, despite the longer distance), but we'll take our time and stop for breathers if necessary. There is also no shame in walking up any of the steeper parts - we never leave anyone behind. There are some short sections of A-road where fast moving traffic is likely.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS
We recommend that you wear a helmet. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing for the weather.
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre-ride checks; we recommend that you also carry at least one spare inner tube, a pump (CO2 inflators are also highly recommended). If you have a mechanical problem we will do our best to assist you and/or lend you an inner tube or repair kit if we can, but it is always best to be self-reliant. Don’t forget to bring money for refreshments and a mobile phone.
