We are delighted to offer this Challenging route with 1343 feet - that's just over 400m of climbing in total, pacing the ride to average about over 12 mph on this super scenic route.
If you think this pace over the hilly route might be an overstretch for you, you are very welcome to come on our 'Leisurely Paced' (c. 10-11 mph average pace) version of this ride:
https://www.letsride.co.uk/rides/watford-cycle-hub-super-scenic-to-st-albans-leisurely-paced-groupOur ride starts with a great stretch through the Cassiobury Estate which should give us a flying start to then head past The Grove golf course towards Chandlers Cross, Belsize and Flaunden. We will descend Rucklers Lane & climb Hyde Lane which is is our main hill challenge and a favourite country lane to climb as it is a quiet, scenic cut through to Bedmond. From Bedmond Tin Church, we take the maze of lanes towards St. Albans emerging on the outskirts of Verulamium Park, where we will head to the Inn-on-the-Park for our cafe break.
Our return leg cuts back through the lanes to Bedmond where we head through Abbots Langley and Hunton Bridge to return to Watford.
Please check your bike is in good working order before the ride - especially that your brakes are working & your tyres are pumped to the correct pressure.
Please bring two spare inner tubes - as changing an inner tube is faster than getting out the rubber glue if punctures happen. The Ride Leaders can help if anyone in the group has a puncture on the day. Watford Cycle Hub sell inner tubes from £4 new, or recycled ones for 50p patched, £1 with no patches, should you need to purchase one. We are Not-For-Profit and do free bike assessments should your bike need checking over, or be in need of a service.
