Castleford

If you're fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour. Come and join us on this brilliant ride starting at Castleford Swimming Pool. The ride takes us further and further away from the edge of Castleford as we make our way to the River Aire where we pick up the National Cycle Route – Trans Pennine Trail for a beautiful ride along the side of the water's edge. The ride takes us past the really interesting Lemonroyd Marina offering moorings for up to 85 boats including narrowboats, wide-beams and canal cruisers. From here the ride takes us over the river and into the scenic and atmospheric RSPB reserve of St Aidans. At this time of year the views won't be the only thing we can take in while on the ride. We will enjoy the flowers and calls of woodland birds, listen out for the deep booming call of courting bitterns in the reedbeds and enjoy the spectacle of wildflowers growing in the grasslands and the bees and butterflies that visit them. We complete the circular ride by picking up another National Cycle Route (697) before making our way back to Castleford Swimming Pool. At just over 16 miles and with so many things to see and take in on this ride it really is not to be missed!
