Starting point

Tyne and Wear
NE27 0QJ

A 20 mile ride on quiet waggonways and shared footpaths with a couple of short sections on roads.

Heading north from the Cobalt we head towards Shiremoor, Wellfield then pick up the Waggonway to The Avenue near Delaval Hall then Seaton Sluice.

From there we follow shared footpaths and cycle lanes along to Whitley Bay and Tynemouth to the Fish Quay. From there we follow cycle paths back to Cobalt via the Royal Quays.

A reasonably flat ride on decent paths and tracks.

Route rating

5 stars (1) Reviews

A ride around North Tyneside and into South Northumberland before heading back along the coast and river.

A lot of the route is on wide, clear Waggonways, some quite roads and shared footpaths. The sea front can be busy but if it is traffic is slow moving.

There are a few options for stops on the way and these will be agreed before the ride.

Helmets are advisable and riders should bring tools, puncture repair kits, drinks and warm clothing as the coast can be a bit cooler than other sections of route.

First-timers welcome!
