Starting at the North Tyneside Council offices at the Cobalt Business Park riders can visit the nearby Holocaust Memorial Garden before setting off into the Cobalt Biodiversity Park, we then head for the coast at Seaton Sluice on the network of Waggonways paths. Once at the seafront we then head towards the River Tyne going through a nature reserve that forms part of the Northumberland Coast SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) taking in views of St Mary’s Island and the beaches on the way. From Tynemouth we head along the Hadrians Cycleway to the Royal Quays then head back to the start point.

Route rating

5 stars (1) Reviews

A ride around North Tyneside and into South Northumberland before heading back along the coast and river.

A lot of the route is on wide, clear Waggonways, some quite roads and shared footpaths. The sea front can be busy but if it is traffic is slow moving.

There are a few options for stops on the way and these will be agreed before the ride.

Helmets are advisable and riders should bring tools, puncture repair kits, drinks and warm clothing as the coast can be a bit cooler than other sections of route.

First-timers welcome!
