The ride can be part of Ride & Stride, a sponsored bike ride or walk between churches to raise funds for the repair and restoration of historic church buildings
https://hihct.org.uk/ride-and-stride/.
The route is exploring part of the Itchen Valley and visiting open historic churches along the way. We will start from the main entrance of Winchester Cathedral before cycling out of Winchester along a mixture of on road and cycle paths towards Kings Worthy. We will cycle towards Martyr Worthy and then along to Itchen Abbas, around Avington and through Easton along quiet country roads. There will be a short section of cycling along the busier Alresford Road on our way back into the city until we turn into Quarry Road and enjoy the lovely downhill to join scenic historic streets to return back to our start point.
Our pace will be slow and steady to allow everyone to get to know each other and gain confidence cycling within the group. We’ll always ride at the pace of the slowest rider, so no-one is left behind and the ride will be carefully managed to ensure everyone feels supported.
Please check your bike is in good working order and conduct a pre-ride safety check on your bike
