Starting point

West Yorkshire
BD18 4DD

We head towards the main road from Hirst Wood and go past the Yorkshire Clinic before heading up through Cottingley Village and the joining the road to Sandy Lane. We turn right at lights towards Wilsden and Harecroft. We turn left down Station Road to meet and cross Hewenden and Cullingworth viaducts. We then go under the viaduct before going across the Flappit junction towards Haworth. We turn left towards Oxenhope and go past Manorlands and the terminus of the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway before heading towards Hebden Bridge. We make a sharp left turn up Hill House Edge Lane and follow it up and up, even though it changes its name, to the Ovenden Moor Wind Farm. Reservoirs a plenty are in evidence. Relaxing downhills take us through Wainstalls before cutting across to Mixenden and Bradshaw before reaching Keelham and Robertshaws for our much needed, and earned, rest. Suitably refreshed we take the shorter journey back along the moor roads above Thornton before passing past Wilsden towards Lee Lane. We head up North Bank Road, Stony Ridge Road and High Bank Lane before descending Moorhead Lane to Saltaire Roundabout (as was) and gently back to Hirst Wood.

An opportunity to get close to the nine 370ft high turbines that can be seen from most of the district and are situated atop Ovenden Moor and behind Ogden Water.

With the exception of Hewenden and Cullingworth viaducts, all the rest are roads which, whilst hilly, are for the main part quiet. There is an option for brave mountain bikers to take the bridleway from the wind farm past Ogden Water, but that will not be me!

Robertshaws Farm Shop at Keelham. Whilst this is 20 miles into the ride it is the most reliable stop for cyclists with both indoor and outside seating.

Please wear a helmet and suitable clothing. We are over 1400ft above sea level at times and it can be windy. Also bring a spare inner tube. Please make sure that the Lets Ride website has up to date contact details for yourself and your emergency contact.
