This
route starts at Baker Street station and ends at Aldgate station, both on the Metropolitan line that allows bikes.
We will pass Hyde Park Serpentine, Green Park, Buckingham Palace, St James's Park, Thames riverside, Tower of London,
St Katherine's Docks & Wapping and do a tour of the Isle of Dogs including
Millwall Dock before walking south through the
Greenwich Foot Tunnel (hoping the lifts are operational; the North Tower has 87 stairs and the South Tower has 100 stairs) to
Cutty Sark at 12 miles.
Then we go around the Greenwich Peninsula to ride the
Cable Car where we each need to pay £6 to travel with our bikes (also concessionary £3 paper ticket). Then we will go through
Poplar Dock Marina and Canary Wharf.
At 19 miles we will briefly stop at the quirky
Yurt Café for optional refreshments then on to Cable Street
CS3 to view the 1936
Battle of Cable Street mural. Thereafter we will visit the
Stepney City Farm to pet the animals and stop for refreshments including the all-day brunch at the
Farm Cafe - the Allotment Kitchen then we will walk through the Farmer's Market.
After that we will cycle through Mile End Park before heading down the Mile End Road
CS2 passing on the right the
Blind Beggar pub where in 1966 Ronnie Cray shot and murdered George Cornell. Then through Whitechapel onto Aldgate station where this ride ends.
The route is mainly on quiet roads and cycleways but we could encounter some Saturday traffic. This ride has 2 hours and 30 minutes of cycling including a modest 680 feet of climbs.
All participants are expected to bring:
• A bike in good working order with tyres pumped to the correct pressure. Please conduct a pre-ride
