We'll be kicking this ride off from the car park at Royal Oak, Tickhill, meeting there at 10.00am with a view to setting off at around 10.15am. It's a relatively short ride at just 12 miles but you'll still get chance to burn some calories as there's quite a long steady uphill climb along Wilsic Road, though the reward for this is a long downhill run on Apy Hill. The route does unfortunately use a few busier roads and also has a short spell on the A60 but the majority of the ride is on quiet lanes.
Although I've not put it on the route map, when we reach the end of Wilsic Road you may feel you'd like to take a refreshment break, so we can always divert to Wadworth and call in at the pub there, before riding back to rejoin the route (doesn't add much to the length of the ride so worth considering bit we'll decide on the day). The ride actually terminates at the start point so we can call in at the Royal Oak for an end of ride drink.
If any of you feel like cycling to the start point from Doncaster let me know and I might well join you (depending on the wind and rain).
This route does go on some unsurfaced track so isn't really suitable for road/tourer bikes.
Make sure you wear your helmet (this is compulsory, if you have no helmet you wont be able to ride with us) and appropriate clothing for the weather (if you have any bright or hi-viz then wear that).
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre ride checks. You should also ensure that you are carrying a hand pump, tools (including tyre levers), at least one spare inner tube for your bicycle, money and a 'phone.
