Starting point

Merseyside

A steady ride mostly on main roads passing through Shakespeare's Prescot to Court Hey Park at Broad Green and along The Liverpool Loop Line and out towards Hale Village where we take a look at the 'big green fella' that is the Childe of Hale, his final resting place in the church yard, the thatched roof cottages and the Lighthouse on the banks of the Mersey. From there we will head towards via Pickering's Pasture with its spectacular views over the River Mersey and on to Spike Island, up the quirky wooden footbridge on the river cycle path and over Ditton Brook (ON FOOT!), and on to Victoria Promenade and to Zena's Cafe where we take our refreshment break. Enjoy the lovely views over the Marina with its plentiful wild bird population, the River Mersey and the Silver Jubilee Bridge and The Mersey Gateway Bridge before heading back to our start point via Rainhill Stoops and Whiston.

A steady ride out to the picturesque village of Hale with some great photo opportunities and fabulous views of the River Mersey enroute

A route mainly on hard surfaced roads and established cycle paths starting from The Wellington at Prescot.

We will take our refreshment break at Zena's Cafe on the Marina at Spike Island, Widnes or, dependent upon the number of participants, The Catalyst Museum also located at Spike Island.

All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). Please also do wrap up warm and wear plenty of layers and don't forget your gloves; it will be cold!

It is essential that everybody enjoys the ride so it will be at a reasonable pace (average 8-10 mph) but will be determined by the overall speed of the group. Plenty of stops for a breather and hopefully an opportunity to take lots of photos (It wouldn't be a CYCLE: St Helens ride without the photos)! Always remember, we will never leave anyone behind!
