Ashworth Barracks, Cedar Road, Balby, Doncaster (situated in the old school buildings at the end of Cedar Road)
The clue is in the title!
This is a rescheduling of what would have been Loop 2 of Le Tour De Doncaster. So, we have an all day event which covers some 47 miles of cycling BUT is broken down into 4 bite size chunks.
We'll meet up at Ashworth Barracks cafe at 9.15am (with a view to departing at 10.00am) where you can fuel up ready to tackle the first hilly (in places) stretch of the route, which runs for 14.25 miles concluding with what will no doubt be a much needed refreshment stop at Markham Grange Nursery & Steam Museum cafe. We should arrive here around 11.45am to 12.00pm.
The second part of the ride will depart from here around 30 minutes after our arrival, heading out on what will be an equally if not more so challenging 12 mile ride taking in Brodsworth, Hooton Pagnell, Hickleton, Barnburgh and Harlington before landing at our next refreshment stop at Pastures Lodge. We should arrive at Pastures at around 2.00pm and will again spend around 30 minutes there to rest and refresh ourselves..
At around 2.30pm we will set off on our 3rd, and shortest but by no means easiest part of the loop, heading up hill once more through Denaby before heading out to Ravenfield via some quiet country lanes, then taking in Woodlaithes and Micklebring before landing just 8 miles later at the fabulous Garden Room cafe at Braithwell at around 3.30pm for our lunch (they stop serving lunch at 3.30pm on a Sunday so we will need to pre-order our food before we leave Pastures - http://gardenroomcafe.co.uk/menu/).
We will need to leave the Garden Room at around closing time, which is 4.30pm, for the final ride which has some nice downhills, your reward for all the uphill riding you've done so far. This takes in Stainton and Tickhill before heading back via Wadworth to Alverley and finally Balby and our start point. In all this final part of the ride is some 12 miles but will possibly be the easiest for you of the day. The cafe at Ashworth Barracks will be open for you to have a relaxing drink and a bit of post ride socialising, expected arrival time back at the Barracks being 6.00pm - 6.15pm
This is a mixed terrain ride, so whist there is plenty of road riding there is also plenty of off road track riding, so is unlikely to suit most road bikes.
Make sure you wear your helmet (this is compulsory, if you have no helmet you wont be able to ride with us) and appropriate clothing for the weather (if you have any bright or hi-viz then wear that).
As usual we do expect you to have ensured your bike is roadworthy and that you have carried out basic pre ride checks; you should also carry at least one spare inner tube, a pump, and tools to enable you to change a tube if necessary. Dont forget too to bring money for refreshments and a mobile 'phone.
