Starting from - Please meet at the Click and collect area of the Tesco Extra Gabalfa car park. This is close to the entrance to Tesco's grounds (within sight of the petrol garage, pedestrian crossing and A48 Western Avenue junction). If driving to the start you opt to park within the Tesco (or neighbouring) car parks, please be aware that you may get a parking ticket if the ride overuns.

It may be more prudent to park the other side of the A48 within the residential area of Gabalfa and accessing Tesco's via the well-lit underpass.

We will cycle from Tesco's Gabalfa along the Taff Trail, past the student residences and up the hill to North Road. Cycling on the shared pavement we will cycle through Gabalfa Interchange, round the west side of UHW, around Heath Park. From there we will cycle along Allensbank Road, Whitchurch Road and Cathays Terrace (using the segregated cycle lanes).

At the bottom of the hill we will cycle across the road then along Senghenydd Road and in front of the Sherman Theatre. We will pass the church and join onto Dumfries Place, Boulevard de Nantes and in front of Cardiff Castle. On approaching the Castle Street entrance to Pettigrews teashop, we will enter Bute Park. While admiring the scenery, we shall ride back to Tesco's.

This route is ideal for those who can pedal and control their bike but are apprehensive about cycling on road. We will start at Tesco's Extra near Gabalfa interchange then cycle mostly on shared cycle paths or segregated from traffic cycle lanes to the Heath, Cathays and the city centre including Bute Park.

This route combines on-road cycling in traffic with an introduction to the many segregated cycle lanes that have popped up in Cardiff in recent years.

Although currently no set cafe stop has been planned, if the weather is favourable and if other riders are in agreement, we have the flexibility to stop en-route at Pettigrews.

Water, a snack, money, helmet and puncture repair kit and an inner tube are always useful. In case of a cafe stop, it is advisable to bring warm clothing layers plus a bike lock.

We especially welcome newbies!
