Tamar Trails from Yelverton

We begin the ride along Drakes Trail to Tavistock then take the backroads to the recycling centre then up the hill to the Tamar trails. Although the trails are along a railway path there is some deep mud along the railway cuttings, so we may go further along the road to cut the trail further along and miss the majority of the muddy bits. The cycle route along the roads back to Tavistock is delightful and designated a signed cycle route.We return to Yelverton along the Drakes Trail from Tavistock.
There is NO Lunchtime menu at the pub and the Tamar Trails Cafe is closed ! Therefore bring something to eat and we will stop in Tavistock for a cuppa on the way back !

Discover an industrial and woodland landscape that is scenic and of special historic interest. Some beautiful lanes and the Devon Great Consuls Trail Mineral Railway north of Tavistock.

Drakes Trail and some quiet country lanes plus the Tamar Trails. It is a lovely circular route but due to the rain soaked mud we may not do all of the Railway path until it is dried out in the summer.

The Copper Penny Inn at Chipshop opens at midday and has a lunchtime menu and an outdoor seating area. We will stop along the route and look at the mining areas and visitor information (ruined house).

This ride is suitable for bikes with wide tyres, ebikes and mtbs but not sports bikes with narrow tyres. Please bring your helmet, money, a snack to eat, pump and inner tube and waterproof.
